Thanks cornbinder, john and steve. I just found your reply Steve. After reading Cornbinders reply I wound up ordering the 540ez last night from Soigeneris. Much neater and probably more reliable...
Thanks for your answer.
The reason I figured a 6.1k for the z is that it is a larger motor and if I am correctly reading the spec sheet from keling it has a current draw of 6.1 amps in parallel...
According to the g540 manual my resistors for the motors should be 6.1k for the nema 34 on the z axis and 3.5k for the nema 23 on the x&y. These are the resistors that connect pins 5 & 1 on the db9...
Thanks for the images. Good idea. I may ask him to send me the extra mounts when I order from cncfusion. Did you mill out the recess entirely or rough cut it and then finish it with the mill?
...
What happened when I tested out the g540 without the motors connected was just as you noticed, when I cut the ac it took about 30 or 40 seconds for the capacitors and the core to discharge.
But...
Yes as a matter of fact I do appreciate this thread! Re the resistors, according to the g540 manual it seems that you multiply the amps of the motor by 1000 to get the resistor value. I think that...
Looking forward to seeing them. I am getting ready to order so it would good to consider them as well. I assume that you mill the out the same that crevice specs?
You are correct the parallel port on the 540 should be connected to the parallel port on the computer.
I believe that the cable and plugs should be a straight through cable. I'll see if I can...
I figure someone will chime in who knows better. But it seems to me that I read on CR's state something about all the wires being matched to to the first four.
Just a sec...
It's on this page...
Still figuring that one out...:)
Hope you get well quickly
I am assuming that you are referring to the same motor for the z axis I have which is a nema 34 from the keling kit. KL34H295-43-8A.
The following link lists the pairings according to colors
...
Look at these diagrams farther down under 8 wire. It will show you the pairings but not the colors.

We have the same kit btw. I just got mine in the mail yesterday. Although I did...
Ok... G540 it is then. Thanks

Not to hijack, but to keep things in one current thread, any opinions about #4 or 5 kits on the link below? As opposed to parting out from separate sources?
I will eventually move to a 4th axis.

Steve, thanks for starting a current version of this thread. I'm in a similar boat.
