I just hooked mine up the other night, I used the instructions from here https://www.automationtechnologiesinc.com/products-page/breakout-boards/c41-pwm-variable-speed-control-board-with-2-realys/...
Man you're killing me, this build is awesome!
Nice build buddy, I like the plate idea! I have been wanting to do that too mine for far too long now. You may have pushed me to finally do that ;)
Like other guys have said, the tang is meant for removal. It doesn't actually drive anything, the taper its self is what locks the tool in place.
Your tailstock looks pretty rusty, you should...
Looks good OP. When I first did my mill I machined some acme lead screws and made delrin nuts. It was excellent, slower rapids vs ballscrews of course but zero back lash. Ran a lot of parts like that...
That looks really cool! Good luck with your project.
Lucky! You must have gotten one of those special edition "harden" bases lol. Its been a few years now so I can't remember what tools I used, but mine cut like butter. Carbide should cut through that...
Oops, thought I replied days ago..
Nah 1605 wouldn't fit in the stock location now that i checked. Might have to look into some smaller alternatives. Oh I know man, my mill needs double nuts or...
You're doing a good job of convincing me haha like I said, it will probably happen. I have a length of 1605 ball screw material behind my desk at work that will probably get both axis out of the way....
Thanks Mike,
I came across that chuck the other week, I wish our dollar wasn't so bad because it comes out to $280.00cad shipped, plus what ever duties I get dinged with along the way. However like...
Thanks for the response. That's kind of what I am thinking about disconnecting them, just to be proactive in case it could cause harm.
I definitely don't disagree with you in terms of it being a...
I finished a conversion on my craftex B2227L lathe last week (woohoo, only took 2.5 years...) Anyway, I wanted to keep manual capabilities on this machine.
I just used the stock screws, mounted the...
Hey guys, I've got a craftex B2227L which has a 5" 3 jaw chuck. I was wondering if anyone knew were I could get some master jaws so I could make some soft jaws for this little guy? I was debating...
Hey guys, so while I know this break out board cannot control spindle rpm through mach3 since it doesnt have 0-10v capabilities, I'm wondering if you know if it could simply turn the spindle on and...
Yeah it was a fun part to do ;) Surprisingly quiet though.
I used this duct idea (thanks by the way) Then machined a prop, it moves alot of air.

I agree with all the above posts. I loved my 7x12 mini lathe but quickly got tired of the tiny bore.
Really happy with the results. On the stock motor geared for 4000rpm I didn't have much power. Was basically limited to 10-15ipm for any hogging in aluminum.
Been taking some .060 deep cuts at...
Hey guys, havent been around here for a while. Main motor died on my mill a couple years ago, so I came up with big plans of building a high speed spindle and custom head for it. I welded up a frame,...
So I bought some cheapo ballscrews off ebay months ago and finally installed one on the z axis. I have about .010 of backlash which I kind of expected since when you hold the screw, the nut has tons...
Thank you! Its not as pretty as I wanted, but it works so who cares :)
I noticed a minor loss in torque which is to be expected, but nothing severe.
Thanks Al, It is working great now. The extra rpms have made a huge improvement, reduced chip load and the cutter ejects the chips alot easier.
So here is my solution for now, however I hit a bit of a speed bump.

Sorry for the delay, things have just been a little busy lately.
Thank you for the responses and ideas, this gives me some possibilities to look into.
Thank you for the comments wizard. No matter what I am very pleased with this machine. My lathe will be next :)
Thats true hey, I live in an older part of my city, and some of my neighbours and...
I just thought I would update this. I know this isn't an exciting machine compared to some of your guys awesome builds with atc, 5 axis trunnion blocks etc.
But man oh man I love this machine! I...
Hey guys, Ive been starving for some more rpms. I typically use 1/4" endmills for my little aluminum projects, but 2400rpms isn't enough.
I've read the stock bearings can handle 3800 if you gear...
That's excellent, thank you guys! Draft sight seems perfect for now.
Hello, my name is Ray. I built my first cnc mill this past winter and have started to become obsessed with cnc machining :) Its been getting harder to go to work and use manual machines all day now...
