A lot of time has passed and a lot of things have change. The single axis sinker EDM is now a fully 3 axis EDM CNC that can do sinker EDM, EDM engraving, Drilling and also Wire EDM.
Cutting HSS...
Just a small update.

The project is now on kickstarter if anyone is interested:

Hi,
After building this big CNC router in the past I decided to move on.

And...
For a VFD you want one with vector control. I don't think the one you posted has that feature. The cheap nowforever E100 VFD has a simple vector control that gives good torque even at lower speed.
Hi,
could you add pictures of your control box? Is the box connected to the router so that the box vibrates? Do you have floating Pins?
PS: This is how I ground the wire shields:
Basically yes. But only the black wire is connected with the BOB. Blue and Brown are at the 12v Terminalblock behind the Z Axis and from there only one 2x 0.75mm^2 goes back to the controlbox and...
This is how it looks now:
The -ve from both power supplies are bridged now.
All + & - from the sensors (brown/blue) are connected to a 12v Terminal at the z-axis.
All black signal wires...
Thanks for the infos. Only one sensor per Pin is connected.
If it is no problem to connect to both -ve then it is working as it should.
Sensors are LJ12A3-4-Z/BX
@john-100 You do...
Hi, I'm a bit confused about how to wire the often used NPN proximity switches.
The setup:
1x 12v Power Supply
1x 5v Power Supply
DB25-1205 chinese BOB
6-36v Proximity Sensor NPN NC
Nice little build. If your commnt wasn't a joke remember: Some wooddusts can cause cancer.
The build is not fully ready so I haven't used it yet. But soon.
The Z Axis back & front are 20mm. If I remember correct they are about 170mmx400mm. The portalbackplate is 25mm with an extrusion...
If you really want to use extrusions make sure to place 20mm or even 40mm solid Aluminium below the linear rails of the Y Axis. The surface of the extrusions is not even. It's concave to the slots....
I like your build. :D
Hi. Today I recognized that the stepper drivers were not connected to the +5V Terminal. Only the step- and dir- was connected to the board. But step+ and dir+ were not connected to anything. The...
I'm form germany and the whole machine must get inspected if it's going to run in a shop. And it is planned to do so. But on my budget it would be good if this only needs to be done once.
@mactect54
You see correct but those breaker are temporary. They get replaced by 2 pole or a 6 pole circuit breaker to disconnect hot & neutral at the same time or with a 6 pole breaker everything...
Just a small update. It is almost done.
Thanks for the feedback. I thought that it will create ground loops but someone said it is not a problem because of equal potential.
The wire shields from the incoming wires will go into shield...
@al_the_man
Just added them yesterday to replace the messy wiring with the enclosures ground pin. Not a beauty but it's still a work in progress.
@mactec54
As far as I know those 2.2kw + VFD sets won't exceed 8A.
@mactec54
It is a basic setup. 4x High torque Nema-23 Stepper, 2.2kw Spindle
But I want to upgrade later and don't want more than 10A per line-in.
This is it now:

Thanks for the feedback.
The first power input is for the 5v and 12v power supplies and maybe for other stuff in the future like a vacuum cleaner etc. And it is connected to a contactor that...
Ok. Thanks. Another question:
As you can see on the picture the panel has three line-in wires. Each one with hot/neutral/ground.
I would like to crimp their grounds together and use them like...
Hi,
at the moment I'm building the control panel and could need a little help with the size of the ground wires.
The source wire is 1,5mm^2. All consumers are internal connected to a star...
I would at least use closed Loop Steppers. Better go with servos.
