BTW, they are probably AC servos not steppers. I think only the 4400C with the Dyna control used steppers with encoders (see my picture upthread). I believe the servos were directly coupled vs the...

I have a drawing of the pullstud specs somewhere, I think it was in the manual. I'll see if I can scan it, but realistically it won't be until late this week or next weekend. If I don't upload...
I was using inside jaws as the ball in question was already machined and that's the only way I could figure out to hold it...
But, yeah, it was not the best way to do it.
Chris.
Thanks for that. Couldn't find the particular tool, but I can imagine what it looks like.... Much like a grinder attachment and it might work a lot better than fixed tooling.
The big problem I...
I assume you keep the rotation towards the tool? What about speeds and feeds? My assumption has been 'as fast as possible', as this is the case with routers?
Thx.
Chris.
I don't know. I machined a similar section in both materials and the delrin version has MUCH more flex and you could mark it with your fingernail. There is no comparison. I showed it to some...
I'm wondering if anyone knows what kind of tooling you might use on a regular metal lathe to machine hardwood.
I tried some indexable inserts I usually use on aluminum, but it leaves a slight...
You probably don't want one of these. The guy that moved mine owns a forklift company and he said this was one of the heaviest things he'd ever moved.... It weights at least 4000 lbs and you...
Probably not. The motors and electronics probably weigh around 200-300lbs, most of the weight is cast iron... You might be able to reduce the weight by another 500 lbs by removing the tool changer....
Sorry for the late reply, been too busy with regular work. The summary is that I got the machine assembled and running at the end of last August, then had to go away on a month long business trip. ...
It would be nice to know where in the US you are. These are very, very good bases for retrofits as they are full mehanite dovetail castings.
Chris.
I got it up and running last (in late October), but that was just a temporary setup. I've been slowly cleaning it up and adding critical safety equipment (like NO limit switches), but it's been slow...
That's why I suggested Probotix. They have 3-axis kits for around $300, including motors, drivers, power supply and breakout board.
You could probably do even cheaper by buying motors from Keling...
Hey there,
You can get pretty cheap small steppers (e.g. $30) from Keling. You can also get pretty cheap complete kits from Probotix.
CNC4PC also has cheap electronics, and the new Gecko G540...
I've got one sitting on a shelf. No idea if it works and I have to check the actual model. I know it's an SST 1500, don't know about the other characters.
I'll check tomorrow and post back.
...
Good points. Right now, I'm planning on selling it whole, first by advertising it on free places. eBay would probably work, there was a Taig with 160hours on it that just sold for $1500. I'd...
It's not an ad. I'm only thinking of selling, I just want to see if there is any interest and the easiest way to post it to my own thread.
When it is ready to sell, and if there is any actual...
If anyone is interested, I am planning on selling this mill. I have a much larger mill that's been converted (see my sig) and I have not used this one is 8 months.
Right now, it's been removed...
Oh, and learn how to use a lathe first. I've spent a lot of time and $$$ on mills, and I actually find that the a lathe is much more useful on a day to day basis. It's also easier to grok than a...
Terrible advice, actually. Techshop is terrible and the classes are even worse. I have a paid-up-front membership and would never use the place.
If you really want to learn something and are in...
If anyone needs parts for the 4400, I've pretty much removed all the electronics and motors from mine. I've got the following still available:
- Master control board
- Spindle control board
-...
Well, he's always been very responsive. The chargepump is not that complicated of a circuit, all the magic is in the chip (and even that's VERY simple). Although you probably don't want to, you...
I am not in the trade, but I do have some really strange anecdotal evidence that about the state of manufacturing
About a month ago I was talking to a sales rep for one of the local (San Francisco...
Have you contacted Arturo Duncan? I'd be surprised if he would want to ignore this....
Chris.
I did one of these a couple of years ago. It's pretty good, but so slooooowwwwwww.....
Also, you will have a problem with the Z. Basically, it will have a slight backlash as it touches the...
If wheels are going to be a major component, you should probably get a lathe with live tooling, and with dual spindles if you can afford it.
That way, with a bar feeder, you have the possibility...
Your piano wire might be stainless steel or chromed. At any rate, it's not likely you will be able to braze it with a propane torch, you will need a small acetylene rig.
Check out tinmantech.com...
Might be interested in taking you up on that. How should I go about arranging this?
Chris.
Update on the copyright thing. I did get the person with the auction mentioned above to include a link back to this thread (even if they were pretty clueless about what it all meant...).
However,...
Well, it is copyrighted. Whoever copied it violated my copyright, I don't need to state it explicitly.
See http://www.copyright.gov/help/faq/faq-general.html#mywork for details. For others...
