I'm use same driver from china. I'm setting current by 0.7 * motor amps. It work ok. If you setting full current by name plate of motor. Motor will jeck.

I was used same set with you. I'm set 2.0A and 800 microstep. Work great no step loss. If you set more current. Motor is jerk not smooth. You should try from minimum current.
Any CF card is ATA harddisk. I'm use CF card 1GB and "CF2IDE" adaptor in my system. only 5US for CF2IDE. Very fast transfer. No turnning device.
I don't use any hob. I use 2.5MM drill for make tooths and mill circle later.

I'm use 3 axis milling to made it. I'm use XL belt.
That chip has code protection bits set. It hard to read but in the China can read it. Only 1% to read it.
