Somewhere on this site there was a retired bearing engineer that probably forgot more about high tolerance bearings than all of us combined currently know. I can't recall his screen name as it has...
My HF lathe takes the 5M710. The lathe was bought in about 2006.
If anyone needs the 5M730 I have three of them. I have no use for them, so make me an offer and pay for shipping and they are...
Very impressive work - and all the machining has been done on a CNC DRILL PRESS? Wow!!
Hats off to you guys.
Scott
I thought the same thing!
No - you are right - I have been off the boards in general for the last year or two. I have been busier than ever. Now I am in the midst of selling my house and...
Very impressive:

(Safe for work, it is machine p0rn, though!)
Anyone care to hazard a guess as to the amount...
Personally - I don't like the idea of using the limits as the home switches. What's your motivation for doing this?
Scott
Wow. I am getting bad about updating my threads.
Sorry!
I used standard bearings - SKF explorer series to be exact. I simply c'bored into the plate about 1/8" to locate the bearing and...
Someone please help me locate a copy of a service manual for a DoAll DTR-28 Articulated Arm Drill Press.
If you have one, can you please make a copy?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
...
Very nice compilation. Did you compile this from the machinery handbook?
Scott
Wow. I need to update this thread!
As far as the backlash in the Z axis arrangement - it is .013" at worst. It's definately coming from the pinion - I have not really attempted to get it out -...
Nice work, Zip!
That went fast, too - probably one of your goals.
Scott
I like the fixture!
Nice work!

What machine are you working on? Is this a J-head?
I have a manual somewhere, but I think it must be on my PC at home. I found it on the net - Google around and you will find it. Heck - I...
McMaster or MSC.

You will need to remove the pinion, too. Take off the clockspring and remove the clutch housing. It's been a while since I have done it but the entire cartridge comes out pretty easily.

Getting better here, too. SE Virginia = $1.45/gal

The pulley speed thing is because you have requested a speed that exceeds the way the pulleys are set up. It's really not that big of a deal and it won't keep the program from running. Do you have...
There is a huge difference between running a service business and bringing a new product to market.
It is a huge task.
Scott
That sounds like the ideal solution but there's a lot more to it than that. Ask me how I know!
Scott
I can honestly say that I am nine years into doing exactly what you are trying to start. I have learned a lot and wish I could go back and re-start knowing what I know now.
I have spent a LOT of...
Why not just get the latest version? What's the fear?

What pressure do you achieve with this rig?
Scott
I concur with Mr. Flung. You do not need to weld things together. In fact, you will likely have a flatter, straighter frame if it is bolted - unless the frame is to be machined after welding.

They have changed the board a bit also, but this is the board:

Or perhaps alter the offset (phase relation) of your opposed weights.

Stalker!
I am assuming your tubing is more than likely 1/8"wall?
And I am guessing your tube is actually 6063-T52 - rectangular and square tubing is typically only available extruded and wrought from 6063...
Nice work, Bob!
