Thanks Mountaincraft. I searched through every ball joint made and sold on autozone.com, which is around 2,000. I narrowed my choices to about 8 different ones. I went to my local autozone and after...
I just need one a few more components and my drive system will be complete.
Here's my motor mount to put together my ac servo drive with my gearheads. I designed these in Rhino, had a machinist make them who lives 300 miles away and shipped to me. Quite happy with my first...
This is one of four ac servo drives, it's strong and quiet.
Here is a picture of my gearheads. Manufactured by Thomson, it's a ultratrue helical true planteary gearhead. 10:1 ratio. 4 arcmin backlash. I have ten, would consider selling 3. They retail for...
There is a trade off when considering the top speed or max IPM. As you know, the slower the top speed, the more overall torque the machine will have through gear reduction. I don't know what the...
Hi Taylormade,
I'm currently working on my drive system and waiting for my machinist to' finish up some parts. I've set a deadline of having this machine up and running by December. I'll post...
Well that answer my question, I'm going to reduce my jogging speed in order to increase my work speed. The majority of the time my cnc table should be working vs jogging around like it has nothing to...
What is a good IPM speed for a cnc router? I seen several machines that run as fast as 1200 IPM but is that necessary or is it just for bragging rights?
Hi Ger21,
Something I plan to do different from everman's design is slow down through a planteary gearbox, the shaft for the pinion, so that my pinion sprocket can be a larger diameter. The...
I wonder is that 100lb per axis or 100lb for both X axis
My concern with this design is payload. Has one tested how much this design can take in payload. I'd like it to handle at least any 400lbs gantry at 1200ipm with dual motors on the x axis
My original plan was to use 6" I-beams going across the 10" I-beams, but they were so bent out of shape I swapped them out for some 6" Channel I had in my yard. They too varied in height. Apparently...
I contacted DMM technology about my motors. My concern was can the motors handle a 350lb gantry at 1000ipm and maintain precision.
I'm going to use 7.2Nm AC servo motor's. The gantry is still in a...
Thanks Taylormade,
What size is your cnc table? What's the travel distance on the Z axis? Is there something you wish you would have done different?
I'm trying to go as fast as I can on this...
Hi Carveone,
If I can get a cnczone veteran like yourself jealous then I'm must be doing something right.

Hi Crane550,
As simple as the leg idea seems, I had to think it over for days. I considered several options. I liked this leg design because it's strong, easily made without a machine shop and...
I capped the 3" x 6" rectangular tubing and coated them with cold galvanize paint across the top and bottom. I won't be able to paint these areas once I lay the plates on top, so I'm getting that...
Here are the legs being put onto the beams
I'm going to be left with a few extra thk bearings. Was thinking of holding onto them just in case but will let them go for the right price. There are HSR30R, I have 4 extras and are brand new, zero...
Thanks Jsheerin,
I'm glad I don't have to slow down my cnc table. I'll be happy to get an accuracy of .002 and if I get .001 I'll be laughing hysterically

Here's the latest, I have the bottom beams perfectly parallel and square with each other. I also used a trick I read on here to make sure the table will be flat. I ran a string diagonally resting on...
I've used the Rustoleum hammered finish and after a few months outdoors, the hammered finish fades off leaving you with a one tone color. A marine grade epoxy paint is a much harder finish. The...
This is a question for you guys with a waterjet. How deep is your tank and what pressure do you run it at? Is there a risk of you cutting the bottom of your tank?
Are you using a metal chop saw? or did you mount the abrasive wheel on a wood chop saw? Wood chop saws can't take the same abuse. You could burn your motor if you push it too hard. I run a metal...
You should be able to cut it with a 14" abrasive wheel on metal chop saw. You could also take it to a local metal shop and I'd imagine they only charge you a few bucks. Although a chop saw will not...
Hi Jsheerin,
What ipm do I need to achieve .001 accuracy? Can you please include the formula
Thanks,
Heavycnc
Thanks Igalla for the math equation, seem obvious now that you explained it.
I'd use a two part epoxy. Marine grade would be the best choice. This is the same stuff used on boats and salt water is a harsh environment for steel of any kind.
