The lamps are cool.
If you do decide to move it to a cross-platform language I would look at Python in preference to Java. Python is newer and easier and the QT GUI also works well cross-platform.
109jb, what language are you using for the GUI interface? For another project, not a mill, I am planning to use Python plus pyQT to generate the G-code to then send as a file to a smoothieboard. The...
Have you looked at the Smoothieboard controller? The Smoothieboard is running grbl on a fast ARM chip, which seems to be the way to go for better performance. Interested in your thoughts on this.
Look forward to seeing a write up of this. Hope you can include lots of pictures. I assume he has modified the dimensions of the G0704 kit for this machine.
CruddCNC used the CNCfusion G0704 kit, which apparently worked, although he had a few problems with the fit, since it is a different machine.
I am going to take it slowly. I don't do production...
So, to be clear, I don't currently own this mill. I just went through the same decision that you are going through and decided to buy this mill over the G0704 for two main reasons. It already has a...
The Precision Matthews PM25MV is similar to the G0704 but seems to have some advantages for a CNC conversion. Namely, more room in the base to fit the new parts.
Your background in architectural design really shines through with this machine.
At least according to the web site both blades are designed for aluminum cutting and both blades have a negative hook.
The TK706 is significantly cheaper than the LU89M010, which is why I am...
Hi
I need to cut some 8020 extrusions (1545) to length. I have a good quality 10" miter saw. I initially used a Dewalt 60 tooth fine crosscut construction blade. This worked but the results were...
Thanks for the reply. I have an old milling machine and I was considering using that to clean up the end of the shaft after cutting but I don't really know whether the few end mills that I have could...
Hi
I have to cut a hobbycnc 305oz-unipolar stepper motor shaft in order to fit it to a K2CNC z-axis. I know I could just add lots of washers but it would be a neater and stronger job if I just...
Keen to see pictures.
This looks good. Why did you not use two motors on the x-axis? There would be less backlash associated with the belt drive and more torque to move the heaviest axis.
Where do you get angular contact bearings from?
I was going to use preloaded regular bearings but I would use the 'right' ones if I knew where to purchase them at a reasonable price.
Greg,
I have a question about your CNC router. It looks like you are using a Rotozip for the spindle. Are you finding this adequate for routing hardwoods?
I am just starting to design my own...
You may be able to get them for less here:

These might suit you. You can buy small quantities.

This is a very thoughtful design that reflects a lot of work on your part.
I am curious about your experience with the IGUS slides. I am considering buying something similar. Did they work out in...
