this is interesting. i have never done any programming w/ a CNC lathe. Is it as simple as a regular toolpath programming for HSMWORKS? and how would postprocess work? obviously there is no existing...
Hi,
I'm in need for a CNC lathe to turn some handbar grips. I watched videos on mill2lathe.com and the setup was very interesting.
I tried to email them for programming advices but all emails...
Bob, Thanks for the advice. I end up doing it in 3D profiling so I don't have to do multiple setups. We'll see how it goes...my first time in 3D!
I bought another toolmaker vise to hold the part sideways and will insert it in my sine vise. thanks for all the help.
now, what's a good way to setup my machining coordinates for the angled hole...
Brian,
That's exactly what I'm trying to do here. I've attached more pics to explain the part better. I do have a sine vise but i'd like to hold the part from parallel sides. Do they sell a...
Hi,
I'm trying to make a tube clamp that it'll hold the tube at an angel to the front/back surface. How would you guys do it? This is my first time dealing with angled holes so i'd like to learn...
I'm in Tucker w a Tormach. You're welcome to come by and check the machine out. I got it used and still learning.
Before I bought it I filled up the inquiry for a demo on tormach website and a...
but I did not use any pre-stored tool offsets, I zeroed them each time. i used paper method and input 0.002" as the paper thickness offset.
Ok this is a follow up from my previous post. I cut a part from a stock but didn't come out to the right thickness. That brought me to my next question, how to properly bring the stock to designed...
Hi,
I cut a small, flat part out of a 0.5" thick alum stock bar and the part came out to be more than 10% thicker than designed.
Stock - 1" x .05" 6061, actual thickness is 12.64mm
Part -...
Thank you all for the great info! I ended up buying 4 more ER20 holders and a JT6 keyless chuck. Now it's time to work on my tool offset table!
I did buy a couple of more ER holders. But a lot times when we r just prototyping we found it's a lot easier to use a chuck for frequent drill bit change. So I wanted to pick a keyless chuck for that...
Hi all,
I got a small part which requires 5 different size of holes to be drilled. I'm considering adding more jacob chucks so i can preset the tool length. However i'm not sure which one should I...
step now your previous post made more sense to me - I didn't know enough to appreciate the contents.
is the reason you use chamfer instead of countersink due to the limited HP on tormach? Or it's...
Hi,
I bought a used trico from ebay which doesn't come with the nozzles. Are they compatible with my flood coolant lines? Or I need to go with Trico Loc-line only?
thanks in adv

Hi all,
I was countersinking 8 existing 12mm holes to 17mm top diameter on a 3mm thick cold finished steel plate, first with a 3 flute 90degree HSS countersink bit, then a 6 FL 82 degree HSS...
I was using an ER collect and yes sir I did tighten the piss out of it :P.
I also use ER20 sets. is 22 feed rate considered "aggressive"? I'm totally new to this so i've been relying on g-wizard...
yes I do have a PDB, and i forgot to check on that when it happened (my head was swelling after all the fuss...)
the tool was definitely not pulled out, i'll check on my pdb tomorrow - is there some...
So I finally settled for sticking to G20 to use my probe,( thanks step. )
I went on cutting a piece of alum using carbide 1/2 2 FL end mill, 4000 rpm, .118 depth and .15 step over. Feed was 22 and...
I've spent a whole afternoon yesterday trying to get it work right - offset the 3mm diameter ruby tip at the end of my passive probe from Tormach. I called tormach 3 times but didn't get the problem...
Hi,
I'm trying out the passive probe I just got from Tormach, but having been pulling hair on the tool diameter offset.
I followed the manual to set up the passive probe in config fire, did the...
Hi, I was looking for one of those stops that mount on the back of the jaw...then I saw this
Set of 2 Machine Shop Vise Stops for CNC or Manual Mill Vise Low Profile | eBay
I'd have understood...
John,
it'd be permanent. it works like a buckle clipon. i'm attaching the cnc part to a plastic clipon buckle with 3 screws - or rivets. the plastic already has 3 existing holes as we sourced...
That's what I tried. I drilled 2.8mm holes for the little screw, but the screw snapped after 2 threads.
oh well guess we do need to source those tiny bitty screws...
thanks
hi,
is there such a thing? tap for self tapping screws. the part i posted earlier will fit with a plastic piece that we source elsewhere. it came with 3 self tapping screws. if we can tap the alum...
oh man that looks gnarly. I got the tormach compression tap head and this will be the first job for it!
I'll follow up after I give it a try. Now i have to source a 2.8mm drill. any recommendation...
md,
I captured some screenshots from my tool settings and tool paths. Basically I'm using a 1/4" end mill to do the flat surfaces and a 3/8" ball end for the compound surface. I'd need to generate...
Ray,
Could you please elaborate on how to "face off" the cut sides? Wouldn't it be easier if i separate them 100% while doing the 2nd side milling w/ an end mill? assume i have all 4 pieces...
Ok you guys have answered all my questions on tools leading me now onto the fixture design of this part.
I've attached 3 screenshots of this part and it's 1.41" wide, 0.57" thick. I'd like to cut...
First 12 of them, 4 identical part with 3 holes each. Then maybe a small run of 20 sets, that's 240 holes. I'm gonna try spiral and form tap see which one I like better. You guys are awesome, better...
