    Re: Standalone CNC Lathe Controller

If I'm not mistaken, you can buy up to 5-axis and do mill-turn, but the controllers aren't really meant to be "portable."

    Re: Standalone CNC Lathe Controller

It simply works. Has its subtleties but once you know what you are doing, things fall into place. Deciphering portions of the manual was my biggest effort.

    Re: Standalone CNC Lathe Controller

One of the first things I did when I put my virtual hands on the user manual was to look for a threading command. It does exist, examples are even provided, and the only thing needed, as expected, is...

    Standalone CNC Lathe Controller

    Hello!

I am on the market to buy a standalone CNC controller for a lathe and I've identified a few products on Aliexpress. In particular, there is this 990TDb or 990TDc controller that appears to...

Re: We are moving to the USA!

I couldn't find this info on the datasheet for the Torus Pro: what is the constant power range of the spindle?

    Re: TORMACH'S BIG ANNOUNCEMENT TODAY?

Unfortunately, I don't think he was mistaken.

I've been looking like crazy for such a BLDC and so far, I haven't found any. If you know where they are, please let me know because I really want...

    Re: TORMACH'S BIG ANNOUNCEMENT TODAY?

Here are some of my observations and info provided by the two Tormach gentleman at the Maker Faire:

    1) Ignoring the enclosure, the machine itself is small as one would might expect (I'm comparing...

Re: Why are end mills made in fractions?

One just needs to read Wikipedia's "Inch" History section to realize that this unit has no place in a technologically advanced civilization. The only saving grace for the inch nowadays is that it was...

Some pics of Tormach at World Maker Faire. I'll post my observations tomorrow as I am too tired right now.

Re: Why are end mills made in fractions?

I feel your pain. Customary units suck and need to be put to rest. I find myself memorizing a bunch of fractional inches in millimeters and avoid having to deal with the archaic system.

    Re: TORMACH'S BIG ANNOUNCEMENT TODAY?

True, but in this case we have a constant torque motor that delivers ~60W at 1000 RPM! The motor and controller may very well be good quality but they are totally inappropriate for this particular...

    Re: TORMACH'S BIG ANNOUNCEMENT TODAY?

Ray, I have my sights on a Baldor BSM90C-3250AF for my Sieg SX4 milling machine (id - Baldor.com). This thing is a PMSM and can be driven either as an AC or DC motor. What I like about it is that it...

    Re: TORMACH'S BIG ANNOUNCEMENT TODAY?

There is no "above base speed" for the 440, max speed is the same as base speed. The thing is strictly constant torque.

    EDIT:

I asked Tormach on Youtube, after they posted the promotional...

    Re: TORMACH'S BIG ANNOUNCEMENT TODAY?

According to Tormach, spindle is constant torque. This means that at 1000 RPM, one gets less than 60W of power. Doesn't sound very appealing to me.

  22. Re: Slant bed Lathe made from tubular steel: build thread

I am in the process of converting my Sieg SC8 lathe to CNC. I'll be using LinuxCNC with a MESA card and I will also have an encoder on the spindle. I'll let you - and evrybody else - know how that...

I could be wrong (I am often) but I suspect your tubular steel frame is going to ring like a bell. I am curious to see the final result, though.

Re: WANTED: spindle Brushless DC motor

How much do you want for the motor, including shipping (US ZIP code 20171)?

Would it be possible to take a picture of the motor nameplate?

    Thanks!

Re: WANTED: spindle Brushless DC motor

I have no interest in the chinese controllers, only the motor itself. I'm not aware of any of those motors blowing up. The same cannot be said about the controllers, it seems.

Re: WANTED: spindle Brushless DC motor

A BLDC is just a permanent magnet synchronous motor in disguise, which is a 3-phase motor.

    WANTED: spindle Brushless DC motor

    Hi, all!

Does anyone have a used spindle brushless DC motor used on Chinese mills/lathes for sale? If you, PM me, as I might be interested. BTW, I am in Virginia/USA.

    Thanks!
