    SBL Lathe Enclosure $1985

Ouch. A bit more expensive than I was hoping.

The original chuck guard was quoted at something like $650 (IIRC). So this means really the cost of the enclosure is now $1985 + $650 (since the chuck guard cost is now part of the base machine price). That makes it double ouch at $2635. I was expecting more like $1000 premium over the chuck guard. There really doesn't seem like much sheetmetal/lexan involved in the enclosure.

Nice to see forward progress on the accessories that they are offering.

The rumor was that the turret was in stock and ready to ship, and they were waiting on finalizing the enclosure to offer it for sale. Alright, we see the enclosure, where is the turret? I see it in the window above...

Lets see, the original SPL lathe email list said that the fully kitted machine would run around $20k... does that mean that the turret is going to cost $6400?

So when you open the door the coolant is going to run down the right side of the machine and drip all over the floor?

Maybe there is a channel at the bottom of the door? I guess I will still buy it since you have to for the tool changer..

Maybe there is a piece of rubber that acts like a squeegee to strip the coolant off the door as you slide it open?

If not, seems like it would be easy to add.

That was exactly what I first saw when I looked at the design.

Also, how wide does it open?

Am I looking at this wrong or is this going to limit Z axis travel? Hard to tell from a single one view picture.

It looks like Tormach is only requiring that you buy either the chuck guard or the full enclosure. They are priced separately on the lathe page.

Has anybody hear if the full enclosures are actually in stock yet?

    Re: SBL Lathe Enclosure $1985

    Sweet!

They changed their pricing since yesterday, and separated the cost of the chuck guard out from the overall cost of the machine.

So the price of the chuck guard is $485 -or- the price of the enclosure is $1985 (and you have to buy one or the other).

That is more reasonable. So upgrading your lathe order with a full enclosure only costs you $1500 more than buying one with a chuck guard.

Glad to see it finally for sale. Now, where's the turret? I thought they had the turrets, and were just waiting on the enclosure. Please don't tell me there's some kind of delay on the turret now.

Looks like Tormach uploaded the installation manuals for both the lathe enclosure and the turret today. Looks like the turret will be fun to setup.
