Easy fixturing for irregular shape part??
Howdy!
I need some help thinking about how to machine this part on my CNC mill. I can envision profiling and finishing the top curved surface out of squared stock but would like some ideas on how to tackle the flat face and pocket on the bottom. So far only idea I've got is making some soft jaws so I can flip over the part and finish the flat side, but as I'm not making more than a few of these parts I'd rather collect some other approaches from you guys. Thanks!
The part is about 2" x 1" x 0.35" made in stainless.

Re: Easy fixturing for irregular shape part??
I'd make the blank longer than needed and use the extra length as a "handle" to hold onto while machining. You could even make it long enough to make two parts end to end with the extra material in the middle.

Mill the flat side and profile first. Then mill the outside profile into some soft jaws for the second op. Then you can clamp onto the whole piece and do your 3d profiling second.
