Help with RS232 WIRING DIAGRAM

Hello guys,
Recently I have been trying to get a old Techno-Isel Davinci machine set up, but I lost the cable. to save some money, I called the company and they sent me wiring diagrams.
I've done the cable and everything to my knowledge, but when I connect to the computer, it tells me that the machine can't be found. But when I open a communications window i can clearly see information being received from the machine. Just not anything that makes sense.

Here is the diagram. I connected exactly as it says.
From the CNC side of the cable
pin 1 to pin 5
pin 2 to pin 3
pin 3 to pin 2

Also, can anyone tell me what is that thing on 4, 5 and 6
and the one that connects 7 and 8. does that mean I have to "bridge" them?

You have the connections for 25 to 25 pin, you need 25 to 9 pin, this is the pdf for Fanuc but just look at the connections hookup and ignore the parameters etc.
The 4,5, and 6,8,20 are the hardware handshake that is jumpered out on the 25pins side.
The pdf shows the corresponding jumpers for 9 pin.
Use the 3 wire cable.
It is 2 -2 and 3 to 3 for TX and RX.

i'm sorry, I am a little lost. Do you mean to say that I need a 25 pin to 9 pin connector or is that just in reference to the wiring?

I am sure the connections are 9 to 9. female rs232 connectors.

Sorry, My mistake, for some reason I miss read, The cable looks correct.
It was the jumpers that mislead me, they should be 7-8 and 6-1-4 for complete hardware handshake jumpered out.
Somehow the 1 to 5 doesn't look right, 5 is common-ground.
I just noticed that the pin 5 on both sides are not connected together, unless this machine is non-standard, they should normally be linked together.

On the machine, there is a 1 2 3 and 5 pin. I assume that it is also ground. But on the diagram, leaving the cnc it does not connect to anything.

what do you think it can be? .. i don't know if I should just follow the diagram, or connect 1 to 5 and 5 to 5.

The standard for the 9 pin RS232 is pin 5 is the common pin.
So if pin 1 is used it is non standard.
Pin 1 is normally DCD input (Data Carrier).

alright, I have connected the 5 from the machine side directly onto the default ground ( the one that connects to the metal part of the adapter ). and I have set up both jumpers. I still have to wait till tommorow to test it out. I'll post the results as soon as I get back.

Here is what happened. I plugged the cable into the controller and the pc.
Turn the machine on and.... it doesn't turn on.. I remove the cable the machine turned on. Apparently when I connected the 5th pin from the controller to ground wire, the machine shuts off. So I remove that connection. I open the comm window and all I get is "ada@U3902u#U@3" same thing as before, Nothing that I could comprehend. I look at my manual and it says "Baud 9400". I remember that when I opened the controller up, there was a couple of baud control switches. And somehow I just knew that something was wrong. I open up the side panel and there it is. All the switches are flipped to one side. As soon as I set it to its default position, I hear a noise and the screen displays...........
"System self - test
Processor ......... ok
Memory .......... ok .
etc... "

It worked! Apparently someone had messed with all the controls in the 90's before splicing most of its cables... (Yes the machine was in horrible condition when I found it.) ..

Thank you So much Al. The jumpers sure helped to bypass the handshake. (Yes, I found another manual that said that jumpers pm 5,4 7,8,4 etc.. bypass machine handshake.)

Glad to hear it did not cause anything serious.
The RS232 standard has been around for a long time, I don't know why some chose other methods?

I know right. I think that the ones that don't leave it standard are the old machines. This one is from the 90's. And almost every single one in my Academy has a different combination that isn't even close to standard. And all of them are old = " 15 - 20 years ".

It must've gotten annoying having a cable break and having to order a new one for $40. (thats what the company wanted to charge me), and now most are standard. Our laser engraver is standard. We just bought a cable from best buy and it works beautifully :)
