New XZero DIY MACHINE/Test mini raptor
Well I was able to get a machine to test. I'm thinking what I'm looking at will be an amazing little machine. Machine is made from 3/4" aluminum (uprights & end frames) super stiff and rigid with a cutting area of around 12"x12" ballscrews are silky smooth (1610 & 2010) fit and finish is second to none. I will be cutting mostly aluminum, this machine will have no trouble. I haven't set my mind on what spindle to run yet, I hope I will soon.

Wow no replies. I'm surprised
Re: New XZero DIY MACHINE/Test mini raptor
You might get a better response if you had a question or if there would be something for people to contribute. Otherwise it is just another CNC machine. A good looking one for that matter but there would be no point for me to just post "Hey, great machine". Also, since CarveOne has not posted for a while the traffic here has gone way down.
Re: New XZero DIY MACHINE/Test mini raptor
YA I can understand that, but on another hand i just figured someone would have said something because it's an amazing machine with lots of potential.
Re: New XZero DIY MACHINE/Test mini raptor
It's a nice little machine that you got to test. The person who designed and built it deserves a pat on the back.
When you share photos, you rarely get a response unless you are doing a build thread or making something really cool with it..

To a lot of people, it's a tiny little toy.
I've seen a bigger X Zero in person, so a smaller one is nothing special.
It generally takes something very unique or spectacular to get a lot of comments on photo's alone.
Re: New XZero DIY MACHINE/Test mini raptor
It's a cute little thing! I hope you keep us updated as you put it to use.

A well built wooden machine will outperform a poorly built metal one. We see it all the time over here in the DIY section. The material does not make the machine. And I said "rivals" not outperforms.
We see machines made from aluminum extrusion that are not very rigid sometimes. Most DIY'ers are not engineers so many are lacking in their design, whereas if someone with a strong engineering background builds a wood machine, it can easily rival the extrusion based one.

On the other hand, I remember one build where the 1" thick aluminium uprights were cut with a jigsaw, filed, and polished to almost perfection. And no your machine is not a toy, there are so-called mini mills with smaller work areas and less ridgid designs.
Yes louieatienza has said good thing about my machines, Thanks. But what is the DIY difference from XZero to CNC router parts or fineline machines?
I think mike was saying, the machines are DIY . They are not set up or running

They're all ready to assemble kits. Most of us consider DIY to be scratch built.
To be honest, there are probably way too many forums here, and some members always want everything moved to it's own little corner.

Fair enough... I do notice the other kit builds from CNCRP and FLA, but then it overlaps with those that buy just the CNCRP trucks and build their machines around that. At least it's not like the one poster that sells plans, then posts stuff like "Watch my machine cut aluminum" with links to his plans in the post LOL!

Coming along quite nicely . Good job .

Re: New XZero DIY MACHINE/Test mini raptor
Why make enclosure that high?
Re: New XZero DIY MACHINE/Test mini raptor
I made it high so there's lots of head room, I figured if I'm going to make a enclosure I might as well make with a bit of room.
