Have had occasional resonance/stalling issues with my Xylotex. Was reading-up on the damper threads. Noticed some guys talking about the Gecko G-540 design inherently causing less resonance.
So if I "just" upgrade from the Xylotex to the Gecko, I'll be able to run my motors faster (probably, I know there are no guarantees)?
Anything besides the G-540 that works as well and is less expensive?
This is probably the only comparable multi-axis drive. A 4 axis version is supposed to be released soon. Not really cheaper, but more powerful.

That Automation Technology unit looks pretty interesting to me. It seems like it is self-contained, just add power supply, which I like a lot. So has there been much experience with those reported here? I only need three axis, if the Automation Technology would work as well as the Gecko then it may be ideal for me.
The G540 is great! I replaced a xylotex with great results. Also jumped to 48 volts. Very much worth doing. Not long after changed the mill to Linuxcnc and got even better performance.

Thinking of trying the Automation Technologies driver, though. It seems similar to the G540, but easier to implement because of the way the unit is packaged.Quote:
