New spindle motor and controller for g0704
After cooking the brush springs on my stock motor, then blowing the control board I decided to just stop faffing and buy a new motor and controller. Ended up with a 110st-5030 ac servo motor and controller. Looks a little overkill but it's lovely and smooth, silent and more torque than I can shake a stick at!

Looks good.
I had the 1800W one (M06030) on my G0704. Had 5000RPM at max speed with a 60:36 tooth HTD5M pulley arrangement.

The spindle ended up disintegrating (it was defective from factory) but never had a complaint with the motor.
Good luck on your conversion!

Oh that looks like a lovely solution, might look at copying that! I believe the spindle is only capable of ~4krpm in stock form but maybe more for short periods?
Re: New spindle motor and controller for g0704
The spindle bearings have been replaced with 7005AC bearings (my model is a BF20 - has a MT2 spindle and needs smaller bearings) and the top bearing with a better quality unit.
I've run the thing for 30 minutes or so at max speed and no significant heat increase - only about 30 degrees above ambient.
The 36T pulley happens to have a boss of exactly the same diameter as the bore in the top of the spindle. Then all that's needed to do is bore out the pulley to accept the spindle shaft, drill two M3 clearance holes ~42mm apart (this is from memory) and put two screws in.
It's what I did, and worked fine.

I see ots long time, but if you see this, did you drive from PC/laptop. DId you use Mach3 in your set up.

Hi Darko,
I'm considering getting an AC Servo for my spindle drive. Did you get yours sorted out? are you able to drive it in mach3?
regards.
