Shizuoka AN-S Ajax Retrofit?

Hey Everyone!

I have a Shizuoka AN-S with a Shadow CNC controller. The machine itself is good, but the old Shadow controller recently died and I've been thinking about scrapping it and doing an AJAX / Mach3 retrofit. I could *probably fix the Shadow controller, but I've never been particularly impressed by it and I think this might be a good opportunity to upgrade.

Does anyone have any comments about Ajax hardware? Is Ajax a good solution, or is there a cheaper alternative that you'd recommend?
