I have often wondered, how do you fine tune a slaved motor? How are the steps set for the slaved motor? If the settings are only for the named axis "Y", what if this is not the correct steps per inch for the slaved motor?
What control software are you using?

Steps/Unit, Acceleration and Velocity, and Homing Speed % for the slaved axis must be the same as the master axis.
Are these settings input before the axis is slaved or are the settings assigned when you slave the axis?
Is there any option for adjustment if the paired motors are not 100% matching on the settings you listed above?
You need to enter the values yourself. You can do it before or after you slave the motors, but don't try to run the machine until you set them.

I know I enter the settings for the axis that will have a slave attached to it. Do I ever enter settings for the slaved axis?
Yes, you have to enter all the settings for both the master and slave. Mach3 does not set them for you.
Maybe I am making this more complicated than it should be. After you slave an axis, the slaved axis is not available to adjust in Motor Tuning, correct? How do you adjust the steps on the slaved axis if they are set incorrect?
Can you do a simple step by step in setting this slaved axis up?

Incorrect. You can still make changes, but they must match the settings of the Master axis. There is no fine tuning of the slave. All settings must match the master.Quote:

1) Config > Slave Axis
2) Go to motor tuning, and set the steps/unit, velocity, accel of the Master.
3) Go to motor tuning, and set the steps/unit, velocity, accel of the Slave. These settings must match the settings of the Master.
If you're using home switches, You'll need to configure them based on your setup, and whether you want homing to auto square the gantry or not.
