Bridgeport Mill changing head angle.....Pic Included
I am not able to change my head angle more than 8 Deg.
I loosen the 4 bolts on the swivel portion but the bolt on the bottom stops it from turning.
I thought it was a thread like the other head angle but it appears to be more like a cam. I turn it and the head will start to swivel for half a turn of the bolt. Then the other half turn of the bolt it forces it back.
How do I get it to swivel more than 8 degs?

Hi Racin
Slacken off the four horizontal bolts and keep turning the vertical bolt on the underside. It may be stiff to turn and that`s because the weight of the head
working against the crank nut gear wheel. As a tip, don`t slacken them off too much as it puts more pressure on the crank nut. It will go , you just need to put some heave ho into it.

I am able to turn the vertical bolt but it will only move it approx. 8 deg, then while turning the bolt in the same direction the head stops moving then starts coming back to where it was originally. It feels like the bolt has a cam on it instead of a thread. The cam starts to move the unit then the weight comes off the bolt and if I continue I feel the weight coming back on and the unit is pushed in the opposite direction back to where I started.
Does anyone have a diagram of this set up?

Still unable to get it to move more.
I loosen the bolts so there was a 1/4 inch gap to try to get a look inside but nothing I can see stopping it.
Does anyone know how this style works?
The bottom bolt is dead centre and not on the side like a worm gear would be.
Re: Bridgeport Mill changing head angle.....Pic Included
It sounds like maybe that's just how it is. It's possible the head is not intended to be tilted and the bolt is just a tramming aid.
If you're work piece isn't too big why not set it up on an angle? Many times it's easier to do it that way than tilt the head.
