stepper motor amp/ driver amp
I know this has been gone over several times here. I have been surfing the forum and still a little confused. I have a small router/mill and have been using it with the original controller which was run by DOS windows 98. I am updating the system using Mach3. I have a BOB/Driver board that is rated 2.5 amps/phase. It will run the steppers but run slow even after tuning in Mach 3. The stepper motors I have are marked as 5a/10a they are 4 wire bipolar motors (photo included). My question is what amp driver is best to use with the motors? Or am I better off replacing the motors with another type with a lower amperage. I do not plan to use the mill that much so I don't want to spend a fortune. I also don't want to buy junk either. Re: stepper motor amp/ driver amp
I can only find this info:
http://www.electrocraft.com/files/ead_step.pdf
Looks like it are 210 oz-in (pag 8).
The 5A/10A would indicate that it are 8 wire motors which can be used in parallel or series connection.
Isn't there some kind of a junction box where the wires come out of the motor, maybe wires soldered together and heatschrinked.
Your current driver is way underrated, do you have the spec's of the original ones?
Also what was the power supply voltage in the original configuration?
Answers to the above will help to provide some recommendations.
