v26 sPLINE/gEAR DRAWING HELP...
I have had this question before...
http://www.cnczone.com/forums/bobcad...ar-spline.html
Attached is a drawing I am trying to draw in bobcad v26. With Burrmans video I go as far as drawing the star and then when i check my angle dimensions (45 degree between teeth) I dont get the right number. Am I doing something wrong? I tried uploading my bobcad file but it wouldnt let me. I have 10k worth of parts to make so I need some serious help.
The inner and outer teeth are arcs fyi.
Re: v26 sPLINE/gEAR DRAWING HELP...
to upload a file you have to .zip
Are you WEDM ?

Have you tried to just draw it?. For the 12 tooth draw your V to spec and Rotate it 11 time at 30 deg. I think it may be easier that to try to do in the gear feature. The attachment is only an example may not be to spec.
Zip your file to send (right click/send to zip folder) then attach

How did you draw that!

Re: v26 sPLINE/gEAR DRAWING HELP...
If it were me, I'd start with drawing the three circles, then draw a line that runs through the middle of the circles. I would then offset that line to the left and right to establish the width of the tooth. I'd then use the intersection of the offset lines and the inner circle to start a line with the 22.5 deg angle on each side. If I'm visualizing right, that should give you your 45 deg angle to the tooth. Once that is done, I'd do a radial copy for the number of teeth needed, trim out the unneeded arcs between teeth, and radius the intersections. If I'm following my own logic, at that point you would be done. If you need a solid model, you could extrude it from there.

Maybe this will help
I added the +1 tolerance to my example but do not know if that is required. and also not sure on how to measure the inner arc area Horizontal or Arc length?
This is only a sample of how I would maybe draw this.
BurrMan makes such Good videos which is much better but I don't have the program to do that.

Re: v26 sPLINE/gEAR DRAWING HELP...
I am stuck on how to make the angles. They never get put on the right orientation with the image. Theyre always going the wrong way!

Re: v26 sPLINE/gEAR DRAWING HELP...
Ok got that part now I cant seem to move the line to the snap points. How do you do that?I can pick the line but it wont snap to the end point on the ID tooth. Thanks a ton!

To move the line you would need to put a point on the end of the line and use Translate with snap points. or a simple way is to just trim the bottom of the line
using Quick Trim located in UTILITIES / TRIM EXTEND / QUICK TRIM

Im sorry, I meant I cant move the angle lines to the corners of the inner teeth

Practice moving lines using snap points .Just draw a line put a point anywhere on screen put a point on the end of the line TRANSLATE you have to select Sketch Enter in translate box to use Pick ---- as shown in picture.
Select line right click OK
Pick point on line then pick other point to move to .
Re: v26 sPLINE/gEAR DRAWING HELP...
Don't forget to look down at the bottom of your screen as you are doing operations. There will be little hints at what BoBcad is waiting for you to do next.
Re: v26 sPLINE/gEAR DRAWING HELP...
OMG I think I just died. I actually did it! Thanks for your patience and time. I have been struggling with these drawings for years. There arent words.

Just in case you didn't know, or for others, when you are in these types of operations, and spline tools etc, when you "shift click" an entity, the snap points will become visible....
Re: v26 sPLINE/gEAR DRAWING HELP...
Can you explain this ?

I like a physical point for this reason, most of times.

jrmach
I did some testing on what you showed and very interesting.
What I found is that it does it on ARCs at the 0 and 180 deg. points. It appears that in those zones the highlighted snaps points if within the cursor pick tolerance, snap point when selected will move to that point. The smaller the ARC when selecting the worse it gets moved, I guess because the pick tolerance of the cursor maybe stays the same
zoomed or not. Maybe BurrMan will have the Technical answer for us.
That was a good find Jr and may solve a lot of broken segment problem in our Geom, now that we are aware of it.

Re: v26 sPLINE/gEAR DRAWING HELP...
This particular "bug" has been with us since at least V23.Maybe Burr can shed some light. This is why I trust a physical "point" more .
