CNC Spindle power for machining Billet Aluminium ?
Hi,
I would like some help in chooising a CNC machine/Spindle that I can use to machine billet aluminium to make small RC parts.
Was wondering if I can get some help whther 2.2Kw would be enough power for this ? I understand that this is probably an open ended questions where kilowatt machines might also be needed. But i need something that can work with small parts. max 2-4 inches.
Thanks !

Why not look at something like a CNCed Taig mill for starters? Its work envelope is well suited to what you are doing and it doesn't break the bank. Best thing is that they hold their value quite well so you can use it for a year or two to figure out what you really need and still get a good part of your initial investment back.

That's more than enough power. 1 hp would be enough for small parts, so your 3 hp is more than capable.

on a very rigid router type machine even 0.8 kw will make 1.5mm deep slot pass without problem with 6mm bit 600-1000mm/m. obviously for dedicated aluminum machine 3kw will be best.
2.2kw can make 6mm depth pass without problem.
you will be limited by your frame, bearing, zaxis more than from the spindle.
plus all i am talking needs active cooling like blown air and fogless mist
