Fanuc 3m - RS232 Problems

Ok I am about ready to give up…

I have read everything I can find on this, and I cannot get it to work.

I need someone to tell me all of the steps to do to trouble shoot this.

Here is what I have.

Okuma 2R-NC mill, with Fanuc 3m Control
Next to the DB25 port is a tape reader/writer and a switch that is labeled Tape Read / Tape Punch. When I put the switch on Tape Read, with OR without a cable connected to the DB25, and I set the control to EDIT, PRGM, Program number, and press the input key, I get the P/S 86 error.

If I set the switch to Tape Punch, I do not get the error, but the control just blinks LSK.

I purchased a cable from shop floor automation, that is wired for the control.

I have set the com port on the PC to the following:
4800 bps
7
Even
2
None

I don’t know what to do from here

I would like it if someone had all of the parameters to check on the control, the parameters were lost, and they have been re-entered from old hardcopies and from other machines, so I have no idea if they are correct.

Any help would be great.
