Laser Cut Steel
I am thinking about getting some parts laser cut.. I want to use them with my NSK and IGUS linear bearings to make a router table.. I have seen some people here mention they got their frames laser cut. i was wondering about the details?
I am thinking 1/4" or 3/8" steel plate.. Lots of holes, as the linear guides have many mounting screws.
How accurate is laser cutting? How expensive for just a few parts? like less than 4x4' of plate.
anyone here want to quote such a job? i am in chicago.

Our company buys a number of parts made mostly from 1/4" P&O. Being from Chicago I'm sure there are plenty of laser shops around. We often request hole size tolerances of plus or minus .002 and are never disappointed. Hole finishes are usually very nice with only a light layer of scale (if the parts aren't cut with nitrogen). I'm not very familiar with cutting materials other than steel. To cut up a plate that small in those quantities you could easily spend $200 to $400, depending on the parts of course.
