I would like to know this as well
Umbrella or side mount tool changer?
Umbrella tool changer equipped, VF-1 / VF-2 will fit through a 7 foot door after taking the Z-axis motor off and laying the cable track on its side. Make sure the spindle is secured to a shipping bracket or resting on a block of wood before you take the motor off.
Thanks, I was talking umbrella changer. You sound like it's pretty simple to remove the Z axis motor? Probably would have to do it while riggers are waiting, is it doable?
I didn't personally do it. The Haas tech was here for the delivery. If the z-axis is parked properly against a block of wood or the spindle shipping bracket, the screw shouldn't move when the motor is removed. I think it was four screws and a couple of connectors and it popped right off. I'm not even sure he undid the connectors. He may have just removed the mounting screws and flopped it over on its side on top of the cabinet. Ditto for the wire track. Same for putting it back on. The wire track has some socket head cap screws holding it on. It didn't look like a big deal and I wouldn't hesitate to do it myself the next time it gets moved.
Will the machine be powered up and parked against a shipping block before it's delivered to you? It should be. The Z-axis shouldn't be bouncing against its bearings during shipment. Are you new to Haas or do you understand how it powers up the first time?
Thanks for the info.
Just checked my machine and it is 91 inches with the head all the way down. This is with the older DC servo motor. My roll up door is 8 foot and it slid in with no problems.
