I've seen a lot of people talking about treadmill motors and other DC motors, but does anyone have experience with a 3 phase 230V motor that works well physically on this mill? I believe it's a NEMA 56C frame motor that's on the machine; is that accurate?
I know Marathon makes a Black Max in 1hp 56C frame, and it's $315. They're supposed to be very good motors.
If you're really considering such a behemoth motor, the Ironhorse is only $100.

Are those the same flange dimensions? The 3/4hp motor is listed as D71C
Here's the specs on a 56C frame motor, it's basically 7 inches in diameter and 12 inches tall give or take.
A good bit bigger than the specs on the D71C, which by the way is supposed to be a near drop in replacement for the motor on the G0602.
Have a look at your lathe to get an idea.

I'll have to measure the motor on the g0704 tonight.
The motor on the G0604 is a D80 frame; I put a leeson D80 motor on it, and the D80 motors are WAY bigger than the stock G0704 motor.
The diameter of the mounting bolt circle on the SC 3/4 hp motor is a little larger than the stock 600 watt motor. I have looked it over, and it should be an easy fit on the 800 watt motor mounting plate for Hoss' belt drive conversion. I haven't checked closely, but I think you could mount the motor in the stock position, and do the drive gear modification that Hoss shows on his Projects page, without too much brain damage.Quote:
