    piston structure design

    Hello all,

I want to build a piston-like setup to do vertical lift. A linear actuator with non-captive screw is proposed. As shown in the attached files, the rear end of the lead screw is fixed to a plate with two nuts. Two drive shafts are also attached to the same plate. The platform to hold load is mounted on the other ends of the shafts. These two shafts go through two linear bearings attached to the enclosure, where the motor is also mounted. The enclosure is supported by two frames and sits on the floor. There is no friction between the platform and the enclosure. I am wondering whether this design is reasonable for the application of vertical lift. If I choose a powerful enough motor, can it be used to lift 100 lb load? Is there any better solution for this application? The key is the tens of micrometer step resolution and fairly large load capacity. Thanks.
Sorry, step file is too large to be uploaded.

Sure you design would work but if looking for repeatable accuracy in that range I think it may struggle if the load varies but to mechanical friction?
I'd probably try a hydraulic ram under the platform with its slave ram opened / compressed by the motor / screw combination?

    Thanks, Kawazuki.
I am not familiar with this hydraulic ram. Do you happen to know any vendor or commercial system that can do this job? Thanks a lot.
