    Pedal Car Rim

Making a set of custom pedal car rims.
3D modeling skills are weak.Right off the start I am getting bad results on surfacing the outer part of the rim.Look at my surface and it is not curved all the way around. So need a different way.
This will be a long thread before we done I am afraid.

What part is not curved all the way around?

Maybe torus subtract torus might work

    You have to rotate

I did the above post with surface 4 edge and split the model in two sections. For some reason as it rounds the corner it straightens up.
So what I just now did is split it in 4 quadrants, did the 4edge on one quadrant, then rotate /copy an it appears good.

    Rims are symmetrical and balanced.

    Rims are made with revolve.

Blank everything except for one of your little arcs and revolve it 360 with a 1 in the z direction. Clcik and shift click the arc.

Then do we have to revolve every separate line of geom and stitch surfaces to solid for rim thickness? or is there an easier way?

Is this what you are trying to do? I did "cheat" and use torus/cylinder intersect/subtract...
I did not know actual wall thickness you wanted so I made up one for model...

I couldn't really tell what was supposed to be a solid in that file. The answer is you basically need to draw a closed profile of the rim.

In your example pic, you have a closed profile that you would just pick for the revolve, and it should be a solid created.

Here's a simple (none precise) example of how to do a car rim. Just choose the pick axis option in the revolve command and use the provided line. There are some details about how to do proper beads and such, but that takes effort and some calcs:

After this part, you would model the spokes and array.

Should be simple enough for a peddle car tire.

Your welcome. That's basically the bead profile with the offset calculated (The offset calcs are the hard part)

After that you would design the hub and spokes and place them at the offset center.

It may be good to look into it and test variations for your peddle car. You may create "the fastest wheel", with a varied offset. Then all the other kids would be struggling and peddling hard with their basic cheap wheels, and your kid will be the champ!!! lol

I know the design I need,I just can't draw it.No beads or offset calcs.
Spokes, yes that I have already failed at too,but I am trying to do this step by step.
The area the rubber tire actually mounts will be machined on manual mill on a dividing head wit a ball end mill. All the rest CNC

Here is kinda of what I need for the rest.I am having problems with drawing the wireframe right so that when I surface it,there won't be gaps.

And I need to also put .126 fiillets where the spokes meet the hub and the rim.
    I am doubting this.ugh

I made these about 8 yrs ago using V20.7 for my grand daughters baby buggy. It was abit of fun also I used NewTraining wheel Rubber for the tires they are kind of American style wheels. The original plastic wheels that came with the buggy didn't get very good mileage sooooooooo-

Nice,So you know what a pita this is,ha,ha

This ain't no ordinary pedal car.I will also be machining the knock off's for this.
This is for a customer that I build race boat parts for and use to do custom motorcycles.I guarantee you when he is done there will be many thousands of dollars in this car.BTW,the rear wheels are 8 inch wide go kart tires.

    Re: Pedal Car Rim

I wonder if I should just extend the spoke geometry into the hub and rim,and then stitch all together,,instead of trying to make everything meet perfect ???
Or is that asking for trouble ???
