    Okuma Multus U3000

We are planning to buy new multiaxis lathe.
    We have already Macturn 350 OSP100 & MActurn 350 OSP200 and 2pcs Multus W400.
Okuma has changed models, so Macturn 350 is no longer available.
New model is called Multus U3000.
    Multifunction | Multi-tasking | CNC Lathe | MULTUS U3000

Any experience about this new model ?

I notice that milling head y-axis moveis no longer "triangle" move, its straight one like in Mori NT.
What about lower turret chip guard in both sides ...it look like to be flat space where chips will be jammed??
Any comments about this new machine would be great.

    Competitors are:
    Mazak integrex i-400
    DMG Mori NT4250
    Takisawa TMM250

Which one would y buy ?

You have a bunch of Okuma's why would you change? We have 3 integrex machines with the old wedge type construction that are still great machines but our newest Integrex with the straight out Y axis is even better. We do aerospace and medical work that is true 5 axis the post from your cam system is the mist important factor in your decision.

In 2011 (or maybe it was 2012) the Macturn 350/OSP300L we bought with 165kg Fanuc robot came in at around $2M installed. The number of people spending that kind of money on new machines in countries that are not China or India is pretty low and the number of people here on CNCZone who have done that is even lower. Since that model is very new the number of people who might buy or have bought that model is even lower.
    See the pattern.... ;-)
It's highly likely you would be the first one (at least here on CNCZone).

I doubt the Okuma design is better than the last so make sure you buy a spare set of slide covers ;-)

Mazak has certainly been doing it longer, even though I'm not a fan of Mazak quality, they do have the multi type down pretty well.

Well that depends on what you believe is problems But the new Machine is quite good, they have made some stupid design stuff but that is mostly for service People where that is a pain in the ass, for operators it is a good Machine, they seam to leak a bit on the top of the door but you Can live with it, also order the automatic door, that 2 piece One sided door is a ***** to open and close all the time if you have sub spindle

    Re: Okuma Multus U3000

the problems we are/were having were busted slide covers jammed with swarf after just 6 months in production, ATC throwing out tools and coolant leaking out of the end of the machine where the chip conveyor is. not to mention endless alarms about many stupid things. we also have trouble holding limits (on diameter and concentricity) on the Macturn. most problems Okuma dealt with but they returned after some time. now we only use the Macturn for roughing work so we avoided having to re-re-re-fix the tolerance issues and in 6 months the machine will be sent to our R&D factory since it is so unreliable it is no good for production.

just ran a batch of parts on a 15 year old macturn.
even with the bt40 taper holders swapping between an 80° rougher and 35° finisher, the shaft diameter didn't move more than .0005" from cool morning to hot afternoon.
machine came standard with a scale on x axis.
    sweet.
