    motorized Z axis

    Hi all,
We are currently checking out options for purchasing a CNC lathe. We are considering a bar feeder but hardly have enough space to set it up. Occasionally I'll see something like this advertised:

Standard Bar Capacity: Z axis: (motorized) 2.8". What exactly does this mean, are there lathes out there that will feed the bar in by themselves without having a separate bar feeder?

Sounds like some kind of bad translation. You can bar pull on any CNC lathe as long as it has a turret and hydraulic/pneumatic chuck. You can also use a sub spindle to pull bar on a twin spindle lathe.

ok, thanks for the reply. We currently do bar-pulling. The main reason I would be wanting to go with bar-feeding is to improve on cycle time. With our current setup we have a Royal bar puller in the turret, and after each part, I have to index to the puller and grab the bar and pull it out. Is it reasonable to expect faster cycle times with a bar-feeder than a puller?
