At work were doing some funky tapers. We have tried automatic tnc and it doesnt work. Were transitioning from a 5 degree id taper to a .031 radius that spills over into a 30degree od taper. The book haas book says that youre supposed to add the tool radius (.031) to the r and to the position but thats for radiuses from 90 degree faces. How are you supposed to program this by hand?

What control do you have?

Depending on the make/model of the control, there may be some built-in help for you. For example, Fanuc has a Direct Drawing Dimensions Programming (optional on some machines, standard on others).

When you say "tnc" doesn't work, I assume you're referring to Tool Nose Radius Comp. If that is so, in what way doesn't it work?

Is the following picture what you mean with regards to the shape of the feature? If not, Post a sketch of the part with some dimensions, then I, or some other Forum member will be able to head you in the right direction.

using haas. its a tl3b with a 4 jaw chuck.
by the tnc wasnt working we tried cutting tapers and they were not correct and it overcut transitioning from face to od taper. and yes we were doing the correct direction. my boss said to not use it. we have been using the angle radius chartthat comes in the haas manual and that works correctly.
