Lofting - Trying to make aircraft exhaust stack..

I've modeled lots of mechanical parts, but nothing with surfaces/curves so far. Trying to model an aircraft exhaust stack that starts with an oval, turns 90 degrees, and ends with an oval 90 degrees to the first. I tried lofting with a guide curve, but I don't want a twist, just want it to flatten out like the pic. I'm not sure how to draw the guide curves. What's best practice for this sort of part? With a tip or 2, I can then make lots of stuff I'd like to.

Is this more like what you're looking for? Lofting can be tricky, and sometimes I just have to mess with it for awhile to get what I'm looking for.

Try something like this. not true oval but you will get the idea.

Don't be afraid to add a third (or fourth, fifth, ...) profile to your loft to get what you want. As stated, it can sometimes be tricky and you just have to mess around with it a bit.

You can also add another guide curve to control the backside contour. I used only one on my part on the front side

Thanks for the help! I see I almost had it, just needed more guide curves! Thanks to you both, I really appreciate it!
