Importing .ai files into V-Carve gives me an error...???

When I import an .ai file which was drawn in Corel, I get an error message saying I can't because it contains bitmap information. I assume I am exporting it out of Corel with wrong settings??? Any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Jeff

    No, you're exporting bitmap information.
V-Carve Pro can only import vectors in .ai and .eps files

    Hey Gerry,

So when I export it out as an .ai file, what is making it have bitmap info? I've been making sure there are no fills and no stroke and have the line width set to hairline. What am I missing?

    ai format is ok..
even vectors are present still vcarve gives this message..

another thing in corel you might change some settings within export.. if you export ai format try to set ai version 3

If you want to be sure just open in notepad and youll see vectors are defined..

    clickdraw

no, ai format contain the vectors.. you have to set intentionally to export only bitmap...
    ==================================================

I attaching a file allegedly contain only bitmap.. by vectric programs...

also a screenshot, no it has vectors.. no bitmap..

again it is about exp[orting out from corel or from adobe..

best you can do, get use other programs beside vcarve.. like inkscape can open vectorfiles and convert into format you might can import into vcarve

for dxf files, use the autodesk viewer, that converts any dxf format to dwg also convert up and down between versions..

draftsight also a great program opens dxf files and you can save out another dxf version and vcarve might can open it..
draftsight and inkscape also can export in pdf format so you migh t able to open in vcarve..

    Morning Victor,

I've tried your suggestions but it still doesn't allow me to import the .ai file. I can export out to a dxf and it opens no problem but I have clients that send me there corel files for us to cut from so figuring this out would really be helpful and time consuming.

    Cheers

    clickdraw

ok.. if your client sending corel files, and you need eps or ai or pdf for your machine..
please note, the all format ai eps or pdf is same..

sometime you can simply rename ai files to pdf and vice versa..

I using corel 7 it is 25 dollar per month.. also I have corel9

I try to show you the export from corel..

    I attached files
    please open them..

the txt file is an ai file.... vectric report it as bitmap.. tough its a 19 kb vectorfile..
open in notepad and you can see the cordinatas..

on picture I show the pdf export settings..

    set output to acrobat 6

and play with other stttings as well...

this pdf you can open with vectric programs..
while other vector files can not be opened..

I cant explain this really but I got explaned from adobe support.. they explained why one program open and others not...

I also was very tired of this bitmap issue, and another never solved problems.. so I just went over to artcam express and immediately all vector problem solved..
    even modelresolution issues..

no more ""contain only bitmap message.. ""

    yes
just go with pdf export.. that was designed for transferring documents between programs..

and latest pdfs capable to convert the bsplines to postscript or Bezier.. that's why if you have dxf with curves, you need a program can export pdf directly

    draftsight, free, can do it..
