Thumbs up How much runout is normal?

    Hi there,

I removed the D1-4" CamLock chuck from my typical chinese import lathe today and measured the runout on the taper nose and the mating plate. I measured about 0.01mm on both. Is this normal or is there something I can do to improve it?

    Here's the measurement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d02_FN2AsXM

    Cheers,
    Alex

Re: How much runout is normal?

    Hi guys,

I've tightened the preload on the main bearings as per this picture:

    Attachment 259810

The runout on the plate is now almost not measurable, however the runout on the taper nose is unchanged. See video:

Any ideas where to from here?
