Getting a Hurco KM-3P to talk to a laptop

I have bought an old Hurco KM-3P mill off GovDeals and looking for some way for it to talk to a laptop so I can enter G-code into it. The parts I'm going to make are very simple, all I need is some way to type in the commands,

I forget if it has a serial port if so look up how to make the cable for the machine and grab some dnc software . you can also make a text file with your code and save it as .hnc then save to a floppy disk .
there is a ton of info out and the layout of the menu system has not changed much over the years . I have run one of them and have run the winmax controllers .

What you may need is a Hurco Manual called:
Conventional NC Executive for Hurco Ultimax Control

There will be 3 connections on the back of your machine.
They are military style and you need to make a cable from military to serial
in order to talk to the PC.. I don't know much about PC's , and the one I use to use was a Win 95 PC, so it had a serial port
My cable had only 3 wires for serial communication

The top military port ( #1 )is a output port only
The next lower port (#2) is for output and input ( ! )
the lower port is for forth axis communication

My baud rate was 9600 and the handshake was 7 data bits, one stop bit and even parity
    It is in ASCII Format
the NC file first character must be a " %" sign and the last character must be a "E" to close the file
my notes say I talked to Steve Artz at Hurco and he sent me the info
    For the cable I have:
Hurco port 2 to a 9 pin PC plug
D9 pin 2 TXD transmit data to > PC pin 2 RXD
D9 pin 6 RXD, receive data < from PC pin 3 TXD
D9 pin 7 DTR data terminal ready > PC pin 4 DTR
    D9 3 Signal ground---------------------PC 5 connect to shield at machine only !

    I also have this
    #3 to #2
    #2 to #3
    #7 to #8
    #8 to #7
    #5 for ground shield
This was 10 years ago and i don't recall which cable was used as I had to play with it

I know that Predator makes a cable(Grizzly) for the Hurco DNC work

Predator Hardware - Wired or wireless rugged MDC, DNC or CNC Networking Hubs, RS232 hardware or Predator Grizzly cables

That pin configuration sounds right .I made a cable for work you can get db-9 ends at RadioShack before they go under ! If you make your own I would recommend soidering the wires to the pins !

    Should be OK !
The BX Control had .0001 capability.

I found out that my comment on the top two ports may not be accurate
Some Hurco's had in/out on the top and not just printer out as I said...so be aware
