    GE Fanuc Series 150MA

    Dear Sirs

45MB SCSI harddisk has gone bad in the subject machine and somehow we could not locate anywhere in open market.

Now Fanuc has given us a SCSI interface which has got slot to put Compact Flash card so we connected this SCSI interface with Compact flash card on to the Main Board

Now during boot up, display shows Hard disk Ready and Floppy Drive ready but when we try to boot from floppy named "Installation boot disk" to restore MMC II software, then it does not boot from Floppy (when it used to boot earlier, then we used to get a "Loading FlexOS" on screen) and instead switch over to Harddisk and stops with message"Unpartitioned Harddisk"

Please let me know if any of you have made use of such interface

    Kindly advice

SCSI HDD is common as dirt. you could use any SCSI-2 HDD with same 50 pin connector.
Interface only converts SCSI to CF. You still need to format and partition HDD (before) and you need to set computer to boot from floppy drive.
If Fanuc gave you the card, why can't use ask Fanuc to complete the installation? I suggest you find someone locally who knows what to do or get Fanuc serviceman to do it.

    Re: GE Fanuc Series 150MA

    Thanks

    a) We have successfully restored MMC earlier with SCSI HDD so we know the procedure, as MMC software belongs to OEM, Fanuc is not able to do anything

    b) Do u think SCSI with CF should get recognised in BIOS as we dont know if MMC software has driver for CF card or not

    c) Now with this SCSI with CF, we get Loading FLexOS on screen with installation boot disk and then immediately screen changes over to red screen with many characters

just use the SCSI HDD and move on. keep a backup copy using Ghost or similar then you can just restore the HDD image quickly to a new HDD if the old SCSI HDD fails.
based on your previous posts, you seem to enjoy taking some years messing around with things that might take just a few hours to fix.

    Sir

6 months back we could restore MMC it was okay. Now that SCSI not getting recognized & we connected SCSI interface with CF, which is getting recognized but during boot with Installation boot disk, Read error appears, we doubt reading head of this FDD is bad because content of floppy as seen under Winimage quite ok ie all 12 files seen

This FDD is different from normal FDD as it has one signal for Motor enable and 1 each for Device secte 0,1,2 whereas normal floppies have signals for Motor A and B, then 4 numbers of Device select hence normal FDD not getting recognised

The floppy drive could be bad. It is common to see bad floppy drives in industrial equipment because of the dirty environment.
The floppy drive is probably using the Shugart interface. This is the same as was used on Amiga computer in mid 80's to mid 90's
Floppy Diskdrive pinout diagram @ pinouts.ru

There is a limited number of floppy drives that can be converted from the regular PC interface to the Shugart interface.
Almost all of those are used with Amiga computers.
You can also buy floppy drive emulator that accepts USB stick or SD card and reads image files as if they were real floppy disks.
Those can be configured with regular PC or Shugart interface.

    Re: GE Fanuc Series 150MA

Yes it is Shugart only as we could see in internet

Thanks we will look for Floppy drive emulator

As scsi interface with CF card being recognized during boot up as HDD so we feel SCSI interface with CF card can be used in place of defective SCSI and MMC software should not be looking for any drivers for CF card

We will update you sir. I am frantically trying my best to fix this issue ofcourse since long

no idea. looks like software crash because of bad hardware. maybe you have other hardware or CPU related problems.
if you still have old working SCSI drive with fully installed system, make image then write it to CF card (using regular PC).
Then use CF card in CNC machine (i.e. install is not needed)
