I have a Fanuc 10m that has worked perfectly for years, today when I tried to transfer a program with rs232 the machine will not read any incoming programs. All else on the machine seems to work properly as well. The strange part is, I can transfer a program back to the pc but its full of # signs and all sorts of other mumbo jumbo. Also the machine can still stop and start the Pc transfer from the control, but the control just will not read the incoming program.

No settings have been changed since the last time the machine worked.

Any thoughts on this?

It looks like:

1. The cable is broken
2. Electric noises around the cable (bad ground).
3. The RS232 port (on any side) is broken.

This is what I have tried.

Swapped the rs232 cable from another working machine setup. Still have the same results.

I used another computer that was once used with this machine with the known working cable. Still have the same results.

The problem is now narrowed down to the machine.
I never unplug the cable from the computer or the machine, this leads me to believe the rs232 port is not damaged. My thoughts are now, that something is wrong with the input output circuit.

Could there be a fuse or breaker for this?
