Hello

I'm in the market for a new vice for my little X1. I have a 3" toolmaker's vice at the moment, but I am finding it to be a real pain when I have to move the pin to another hole so I can open the jaw more or less.

I came across this cheapo 4" vice on ebay: EBAY LINK
But the picture has put me off! The jaws don't appear to line up! Look close at the first picture.

Does anyone have any experience with this particular vice? Perhaps it is fixable.

Do you think it will be too large for the X1?

You could always look for a 4-in Kurt vise, but those run around $550 new and are rarely placed on sale.

In the end I decided on a 3" angle lock vice from Rotagrip for just slightly more money. It also came with a swivel base, but I'm not using that at the moment.

I think for this size mill, anything larger than this would be a bit silly!

I agree with the size and also ordered a 3". Mainly for the clearance (at max y position) between column ant the vise back. I still have not received my vise as it was lost in the mail. Is that a factory x1 table? I like the looks of it.

Its the factory table for the X1L (400mm long). You can get it after market too from Super X1 Spares - Arc Euro Trade

4" is a good size for the x3, but honestly a 3" on the x3" would be more fitting. I wouldn't reconvened a 4" on the x1 unless you really need the size. They do make kurt 3" vises that you can find on eBay here and there if your after quality.
